Ben Ramcharan
About Me
I’m the councillor for Sugarloaf Ward in Nillumbik Council. I’ve lived in North Warrandyte for the past 13 years and have been a strong advocate on issues affecting the Nillumbik community, including the need for better protections for neighbourhood character and the environment as well as improved road safety and community infrastructure.
I have the energy and vision to make things happen. My community work includes being a member of a number of local community groups, including:
- Friends of Nillumbik
- The Warrandyte Community Association
- Nillumbik Climate Emergency Action Team
Working hard for my community is important to me and that is why I love being a councillor.
Work and Qualifications
I graduated from Monash University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Computer Science and I currently work as a web developer at a not-for-profit youth mental health organisation. I love my job because it helps me make a difference in the world and I hope I can do the same as a councillor.
My past working experience includes working in sport, research and with children. I have also spent some time assisting with the development of the Bionic Eye for people with vision impairments.
Outside of politics and work, personal projects have led me to work on study software for students of all ages, screen reading software for people with vision impairments and a number of mobile apps.
Awards
I have been honoured to receive a number of awards for my community work, including:
- The Sir John Monash Medal (2019)
for achieving high results in my studies while doing good work in the community. - The Rotary Club Community Service Award (2013)
for observance of the Rotary ideal of service above self.
